**ATTN: The best way to tell if you plant needs water is to stick your finger in the ball of the plant and push your finger down until you feel moist soil. If you feel moist soil at 1" or less wait a day or two and check again. If it is dry then you know its time to water. Also sometimes a plant is wilting or has droopy looking leaves. This can indicate either a plant that is too wet or one that is too dry. Plants that are too wet show this symptom because the roots are rotting and unable to take up water. Make sure you are watering correctly.
Watering Key
Ammount of water and frequency is dependent on soil type and weather.
Sandy Soil = more frequent watering
Clay Soils = less frequent watering
Temp less than 80 degrees = less frequent watering
Temp higher than 80 degrees and/or windy conditions = more frequent watering
For Loam Soil ESTABLISHED PLANTS NEWLY PLANTED
Light** These plants like to be grown on the dry side. 1" or less of rain water per week or hand water 1 time per week or every 2 weeks depending on weather and soil conditions. Run hose for 15-30 min or until the ground is saturated, at a slow stream the diameter of a pencil. (for trees double or triple the hose running time, but not the frequency) Water as needed making sure not to over-water the plants. 2 times a week for the first couple of weeks should be sufficient. Run hose for 15-30 min or until the ground is saturated, at a slow stream the diameter of a pencil (for trees double or triple the hose running time, but not the frequency). After the first couple of weeks follow the Estabilshed Plants Section.
Normal** Established Plants need 1" of rain per week or one good soaking. Run hose for 15-30 min or until the ground is saturated, at a slow stream the diameter of a pencil. (for trees double or triple the hose running time, but not the frequency) Water as needed but 2-3 times a week for the first couple of weeks should be sufficient. Run hose for 15-30 min or until the ground is saturated, at a slow stream the diameter of a pencil (for trees double or triple the hose running time, but not the frequency). After the first couple of weeks follow the Estabilshed Plants Section.
Extra** (for trees double or triple the hose running time, but not the frequency) Established Plants need more than 1" of water per week or two to three good soakings. Run hose for 15-30 min or until the ground is saturated, at a slow stream the diameter of a pencil. (for trees double or triple the hose running time, but not the frequency) Water as needed but 3-4 times a week for the first couple of weeks should be sufficient. Run hose for 15-30 min or until the ground is saturated, at a slow stream the diameter of a pencil (for trees double or triple the hose running time, but not the frequency).
